  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Toss in the beef strips and let marinate for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until soft and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper before removing from the pan.
  3. Increase heat to high, add remaining vegetable oil to the skillet, then add marinated beef strips. Stir-fry for about 2–3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a small bowl, combine remaining soy sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour over cooked beef and simmer until thickened.
  5. Add sautéed onions back to the pan with the beef and sauce. Stir well and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
