Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus more for brushing)
  • Optional: 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix yogurt, warm water, and olive oil. Gradually combine with the dry ingredients until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rest for at least 1 hour.
  5. Divide the rested dough into 6-8 portions. Roll each into an oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for 2-3 minutes on each side until puffed and golden brown.
  7. Brush with olive oil or melted butter before serving warm.
