  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into small meatballs.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the meatballs on all sides (about 8-10 minutes), then remove from skillet.
  4. In the same skillet, toast the orzo for 2-3 minutes until golden. Add marinara sauce and heavy cream; stir and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Transfer the orzo mixture to a greased baking dish, nestle in the meatballs, and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes; remove foil and bake an additional 10-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
